Definition
Ghrelin is a peptide hormone produced primarily in the stomach that stimulates appetite and triggers growth hormone release from the pituitary by binding the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). On TruthTides, ghrelin is referenced as the receptor target of Ipamorelin and other growth hormone secretagogues: rather than mimicking GHRH, these peptides activate the ghrelin pathway to produce a pulsatile GH release. Ipamorelin is described as a selective ghrelin receptor agonist because it stimulates GH release without significantly affecting cortisol, prolactin, or appetite.
